It’s a big year for Konami with the company celebrating 50 years of being in business, and over the last few months they’ve gone big with multiple launches of some the most entertaining titles of 2019. For now though it’s all about one game – Contra: Rogue Corps.
Released today on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC in the US, with the UK launch happening come the 26th Sept, Contra: Rogue Corps is Konami’s latest attempt to keep the cult classic Contra series alive. And after providing the goods with the likes of eFootball PES 2020 a few weeks back, and nailing the Anniversary Collections with Contra, Arcade and Castlevania entries, hopes are very high for this release.
Priced up at £39.99/$39.99 for the Standard Edition of Contra Rogue Corps, we’ll have the chance to head into the Damned City and take charge of Max ‘Kaiser’ Doyle, the leader of the titular Rogue Corps. From there on out this latest edition of the classic will see us twin-sticking our way through a world that has been created by Nobuya Nakazato, the creator of Contra III: The Alien Wars as more than 25 years of the franchise gets put to good use.
Expect to find violence that is hugely OTT, prepare yourself to take on a variety of enormous enemies and get ready to enjoy a widely diverse range of characters as we complete missions in PvE campaigns, upgrading both body parts and guns in order to stay alive.
The option to drop a friend into the campaign in order to take down enemies as one, or partake in local couch co-op and a unique online Carnage League, should really be the icing on the Contra cake.
- • Local and Online CO-OP action for up to 4 players
- • 4 outrageous characters, each with their own weird style and colourful attitude
- • Build over 100 weapons and augment your character with bionic body parts earned in-mission
- • Character progression, weapon development and customisation ensure extensive replayability
- • Crazy new heroes and big bosses join the Contra universe
Our full review is coming in the days ahead of this launch so make sure you keep an eye out for it, but in the meantime, should you be down for some Contra action and feel that the Rogue Corps have what it takes to scratch an itch, then head over to your favoured digital store and grab a download. For us Xbox One owners, that obviously means heading to the Xbox Store. You’ll also find Contra Rogue Corps available on PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC too.
Should you be hugely interested in what Konami are delivering then the option to take in the £4.99/$4.99 Season Pass is a viable one. Doing so will give access to 4 DLC packs including Skins and in-game items further down the line – Hungry Beast 4 T-shirts Pack, Retro Bill Pack, The Gentleman Beetle Pack, and the Assassin Pack.
CONTRA is back! Two years after the Alien Wars ended, the Damned City erupts from the final battleground. From the midst of the chaos, a group of scoundrels emerge. They might not be typical heroes, but they’re here to save the world… or get rich trying.
